OUR PURPOSE

Teachers Saving Children^® Inc. -- National is an organization of pro-life teachers and other concerned citizens whose primary purpose is a commitment to establishing a respect for all human life from conception to natural death, especially among professional educators' organizations.

OUR HISTORY

Many educators in America advocate a respect for life. That is why in the late 1980s, Bob Pawson, a New Jersey teacher, had a vision of starting a nationwide pro-life organiation of educators dedicated to the purpose of changing the National Education Association's (NEA's) position on abortion. Many educators across the nation supported Bob's vision, including several Ohio pro-life educators who organized a Teachers Saving Children^® Ohio Chapter in February 1991.

In the spring of 1994, Bob Pawson contacted the Ohio Affilaite Chapter and asked if its Board of Trustees would consider overseeing the National Corporation. In September 1994, afer much prayer, the Teachers Saving Children^® Ohio Chapter Board of Trustees passed a resolution to form a Teachers Saving Children^® National Corporation.

OUR FOCUS

Initially, the focus of the organization was to continue Bob's vision - to change NEA's position on abortion. Though our primary purpose remains the same, our focus has changed since our incorporation in 1994. Today, Teachers Saving Children^® Inc. - National carries out its commitment to establishing a respect for all human life from conception to natural death
*through networking pro-life educators
*through educating colleagues about the sanctity of life (i.e. "The wonder of Life" exhibit, newsletters, speaking events, etc.)
*through being a resource for educators, especially in the fields of health, science, and child development
*through educating colleagues about their options regarding union membership

Rooted in Judeo-Christian principles, we see ourselves as seed planters, sowing Truth in a world that attempts to disregard the sanctity of human life. The results have been evident as seen in the testimonies expressed by changed individuals.

The need for an organization such as Teachers Saving Children^® is vital in today's society. We are a voice, sometimes the only voice, for life in education.

OUR ACTIVITIES

We inform educators and the general public about life issues via exhibits, press articles and editorials, and letter writing campaigns. We work through proper channels in furthering a respect for the sanctity of human life.

Informative bi-monthly newsletters are sent to all members. Teachers Saving Children^® board members are available for speaking engagements and workshops. We welcome and appreciate prayer and financial support in sustaining our level of activity.

OUR LEADERSHIP

The governing body of Teachers Saving Children^® Inc. - National was formally established October 1, 1994. It consists of a Board of Trustees with voting members, including five at-large members and one representative from each state affiliate, plus the Executive Director, who is a non-voting member. A goal of the national organization is to assist in the development of affiliate state chapters.

OUR MEMBERSHIP

Teachers Saving Children^® membership is open to all educators and other concerned citizens who support our purpose statement. Membership in a professional educators' organization is not necessary for joining Teachers Saving Children^®.

Annual dues are $35.00 for individuals and $15 for both college students and retired educators. Husband and wife may join under the same membership. To join Teachers Saving Children^®, simply fill out the membership form and send it in with your dues. Our membership year runs from September 1 - August 31.

Contributions and Memberships are NOT tax deductible.
