FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Connie Bancroft

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”

-Malachi 3:10

As I was reflecting on some thoughts to share in this column, I was continually reminded of Christ’s words in Luke 19 when He entered Jerusalem during the time of the Passover. The disciples and people in the crowd were joyfully praising God in loud voices. The Pharisees asked Jesus to quiet the people. Jesus responded by saying “I tell you, if they [the people] keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

All of us are experiencing the affects of the current economic situation here within the United States. Yet, over the past three months, I have personally experienced the Lord throwing open His floodgates of blessing. I knew last August before the school year started that I would need to take a day without pay in order to attend the annual March for Life in Washington DC on January 22nd. Why? My local contract does not allow me to take personal time off work, the day following a holiday. This year, January 22nd fell the day after the Martin Luther King holiday. In the past I have, for various reasons, needed to take a day without pay. In my obedience to the Lord, He has always blessed with His provision during those lean couple of weeks. This time was no different.

This year I saw the Lord provide so many individuals who wanted to participate on our bus trip to Washington DC that I needed to order a larger bus. Even with no increase in the bus reservation fee, all expenses for the bus trip were met. Wow!

Three days later on January 25th, I flew to Louisville, Kentucky for the NEA Mid-Atlantic Leadership Conference, which I attended at my own expense. The Lord blessed the undertaking by providing me free lodging while in Louisville. (Thank you, Karen, for your kind heart in allowing me to stay with you.) It was during the Mid-Atlantic Leadership Conference that I had the opportunity to share some thoughts during the Resolutions hearing. Though my recommendation was not fully accepted and approved by the Resolutions Commission, it led to several opportunities to share with individuals in one-on-one dialogue. These conversations have given me occasion to plant seeds that the Lord will use to change hearts.

The Lord has also blessed me with time. As an intervention specialist, I had 16 IEPs to write this year. All 16 IEPs were due for parent meetings in late March. With a new special services director mid-year, expectations were different. I did not know how I was going to get all the IEPs written, considering my other responsibilities in both teaching and ministry. The Lord provided time me through snow days – including a weekend blizzard. We have had seven snow days this year – with five of those in February. I used those days, along with three other days in February, to prepare for my IEP conferences. The end result was that all my conferences went very well -- and for that provision of time, I praise God.

Over the last few weeks, I was also in the middle of selling my car and buying a different one. The buying was simple because my mother was selling me her car, which was rather new and had very low mileage. Selling my car, however, was another story. Yet, through it all, I could see the Lord’s hand – from the loan payment figure, to the insurance amount, to the timing of the sale of my car. On Monday, the day after Easter, I made contact with an individual who had shown interest in my car. From the time I left my home at about 9:30 AM, until I returned home at about 4:30 PM, everything was completed that needed to be done – the loan, the sale, the insurance – everything. It was the Lord’s perfect timing.

I have also watched the Lord work through a low financial year for Teachers Saving Children®. Although there was a dues increase for 2007-2008, the Board of Trustees also made some decision which increased our expenditures this year. These decisions included a new publicity brochure, a promotional DVD, and a new look for our newsletter. Yet, through it all, the Lord has blessed Teachers Saving Children® with the means necessary to pay each bill.

When we prayerfully seek the Lord and are obedient to His leading, He is faithful. He will guide. He will bless. He will provide.

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumer, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

-Lamentations 3:22-23

NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION ACCOMMODATES
LIBERAL, PRO-ABORTION GROUP

By Kristan Hawkins

The National Young Women’s Leadership Conference, sponsored by the Feminist Majority Foundation, was held at the National Education Association headquarters building in Washington DC, Saturday, March 8, through Sunday, March 9, 2008.

Eleanor Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority Foundation, enthusiastically announced during the opening session that “Feminists are the majority.” I am pleased to inform you that Feminists are not the majority! This conference was targeted towards young college age women. However, there were only approximately one hundred students in attendance. I have been informed that these numbers are nearly cut in half from the previous year’s conference. This is encouraging news since Students for Life of America (SFLA) had approximately 800 pro-life students at our annual conference this January.

Other staff members and I were able to attend several break-out sessions throughout the course of the conference. Those sessions were named “The Power of Our Vote: Organizing on Campus,” “Increasing Birth Control Access on Campus,” and “Skills Building: Taking Action to Expose Fake Clinics.” The majority of the break-out sessions were focused on retaining a woman’s “right to choose.”

There is a sense of urgency within the Feminist Majority that can not be ignored. For example, literature was distributed with titles such as “Vote as if your life depends on it.” During one break-out session, Eleanor Smeal commented that unfortunately the Feminists had led them to believe a false mythology that women have received their rights, and that the problems of the current generation are much greater than those of previous generations. The Feminists know the war is still raging and that they are in a position to lose the war. Eleanor Smeal said that those of her generation were heavy givers and that they have not been replaced.

While the Feminists appear to have developed and organized a well presented plan of action, their disdain for anything conservative blinds them for the task at hand. During various break-out sessions, the speakers guided off topic to comment on the following: the loss of our democracy, evolution, the control of fraternities, the ill-educated running for office (Bible believing Christians), and the learning processes of boys vs. girls, just to name a few.

Their plan: The Feminist Majority will be conducting a “Get Out HER Vote Campaign” (GOHV) on our college campuses this fall. It is suggested that each campus group focus upon at least four issues to help their group stand out and to appeal to a larger audience. Their goal is to register as many Feminists at their college precincts as possible in order to show a massive number of Feminists in one location, with the hope that those numbers could not be ignored.

Students left the break-out sessions excited to return to their college campuses to expose and shut down the “Fake Clinics,” or properly known as “Crisis Pregnancy Centers.” They were armed with sample media advisories, scripts, and instructions on how to stage protests outside of the doors of the “Fake Clinics.” Also, the Feminists are tracking the number of women involved in Student Governments. They are urging college-age Feminists to join the student government and to form coalitions with other like-minded organizations, so they can have their voices heard on our college campuses.

The guest of honor at this conference was Dr. George Tiller, a late-term abortionist from Kansas. Dr. Tiller received several standing ovations and was praised for being one of the last few “brave” doctors who are still performing late-term abortions. In a personal conversation I had with Dr. Tiller, he admitted that he has performed an abortion up to the day before the delivery due date. Dr. Tiller’s presentation included images of babies he aborted with a range of fetal abnormalities, as he attempted to justify his actions.

Even though I was surrounded by a hundred pro-abortion feminists for two days, I left the conference with a sense of encouragement. We can, and we will win this battle! Life will win! No longer do we need to be deceived by the boasts from the Feminists about their majority. I have seen with my own eyes that we are the majority and have heard from their own mouths that they have not won. Students for Life of America currently has approximately 405 pro-life groups on our college campuses. We send staff to the belly of the beast to start and train campus pro-life groups. The battlefield is on the college campuses, for a majority of abortions are performed on college-aged women, and it is in college where pro-lifers become “pro-choicers.” We are ready and able to educate college-age women about the harmful effects of abortion and to save lives. SEEING IS BELIEVING

Washington Update - March 24, 2008
Family Research Council

In the past decade, ultrasound technology has succeeded in unmasking the lie of the abortion movement by offering a heart-changing window into the womb and revealing the personhood of humanity’s smallest members. Seeing their children as living, feeling, and kicking babies, not “blobs of tissue,” the number of moms who reconsider their decision to abort after having an ultrasound is staggering. To help dissuade more from aborting, pro-lifers have pushed to make the mere offer of an ultrasound universal in states. Six are working to ensure that women have the opportunity to take an honest look at their children before agreeing to abort them. In Ohio, a bill signed into law by Gov. Ted Strickland (D) on Friday will revoke a physician’s license if he does not comply. A similar proposal is being debated in the Kentucky House, where a pro-life lawmaker is proposing a fine of $100,000 for any doctor who ignores the ultrasound mandate. In Florida and Oklahoma, the statehouses, are considering comparable bills, while the Kansas House voted overwhelmingly to approve the same model as Ohio. For Missourians, the battle over ultrasound legislation has been complicated by pro-abortion House members who have tried repeatedly to divert attention away from the issue in hopes of killing it in committee. Although the Senate approved the bill, liberals continue to push back on a vote. If you live in any of the five states currently considering this important legislation, contact your leaders and insist that if women have the so-called “right” to choose, they have a right to know all of the facts first.

"THE WONDER OF LIFE"

Words cannot express our appreciation for the gracious monetary gifts that have been received to assist with “The Wonder of Life” exhibit. The application has been processed! The Lord continues to expand our territory of ministry opportunity and individuals are rising to the occasion in support! Thank you!

This year the mission field in Washington DC is being laid out before us. From July 1 – 3, 2008, hundreds of exhibitors will participate in the NEA Expo 2008. With God’s help our exhibit puts the facts and the wonder of human development before the largest assembly of decision-makers among educators across this nation. Through our exhibit, thousands of educators, their guests, and NEA staff are reached with the pro-life message.

By faith, these decisions, the application, and purchases of materials are made. With this decision and application, there is an investment of over $2000 for the exhibit space rental fee and miscellaneous fees alone.

Due to the high volume of individuals who visit our booth, lots of materials are needed for distribution. We have found over the past several years a high interest, especially among science and health teachers, in the materials that we have purchased for our exhibit. These materials include approved brochures which are age-appropriate, positive, colorful, and scientifically accurate. We also include videos, CDs, and books that encourage a respect for human life.

Only as funds are available, are materials purchased for distribution. It is our hope to raise the additional money needed to purchase a reasonable quantity of these materials that will be given away free of charge. Currently we have purchased some materials for distribution, but could use approximately $600 more to complete a variety of materials to reach educators across a wide spectrum of teaching responsibilities. Each year we rely on the goodness of God and His people to raise the money for this effective pro-life education ministry. We have never been disappointed with His provision. Please prayerfully consider being a part of this special endeavor by sending in your contribution today.

Note: Please make checks payable to “TSC Inc. – National”. Please carefully note how the amount given is to be designated (“NEA Exhibit”) so that the contribution will be appropriately allocated.

NEA CONVENTION 2008

The 2008 NEA Representative Assembly will be held in Washington DC from July 1-6. If you are an NEA member, it is vital that you contact your delegates to the convention, letting them know your philosophy on various issues. If you have a delegate(s) from your local attending the NEA RA, contact should be very easy. However, many locals do not or can not send delegates to the NEA, either because of the financial burden or because of their small membership size. Regardless, know that someone will be representing you! Check with your local president as to who will be representing you – either as a local delegate, an at-large state delegate(s), or possibly a clustered local delegate. By the first part of May, local presidents should know who your delegate representative(s) will be. If they don't know, ask them to find out by contacting your state affiliate NEA office. Get involved by contacting your NEA delegates! They are your representatives!
