“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
As I was reflecting on thoughts to share this month, my mind kept coming back to the word “change.” There are changes in life that are beneficial, and there are changes in life that can have major consequences.
In my own life, many changes have occurred over the years. My initial degree from Malone University was in music education. I even began a Masters degree in music. But the Lord closed those doors and moved me into another area of certification. For 24 years I worked as an intervention specialist in the West Branch Local School District. During that time the area of special education changed drastically. I began by working in a small group setting, but later taught students who were serviced in a Resource Room.
Then the day came this past year when I submitted my letter of retirement, another change in life that officially began on July 1st. This change will prove to be a little different, though, because the West Branch Local School District will be rehiring me as their Transition Coordinator, beginning September 1st. Due to a retire-rehire clause in our contract, I knew that I would be rehired September 1st, but had originally thought I would still be working directly with students in a Resource Room. That all changed the last day of school when my principal approached me and asked me to consider the Transition Coordinator’s posted position. After talking with the superintendent who saw a perfect match between my giftedness and this new position, I submitted a letter stating I would be interested in serving as the district’s Transition Coordinator -- another change, another challenge in life.
Now, on a bigger scale, when I consider the changes that are taking place in our nation, I become very concerned. Not a day passes when I do not receive an email with updates regarding legislation being debated either at the state or national level. The battle for the lives of the pre-born is becoming more intense. Individuals are becoming educated and aware of the direction our nation is taking. Organizations are networking to get the word out so that people can be accurately informed. Our website has links to several highly respected organizations so that readers can be updated with accurate information about what is happening in Washington DC.
As I stated in the opening paragraph, there are changes in life that are beneficial, and there are changes in life that can have major consequences. In the midst of all the changes that occur in life, there is one thing I am so thankful for, and that is that Jesus Christ never changes and He is still in control. We can still put our trust in Him no matter what twists and turns life brings our way.
As we face the many opportunities to be a voice for life among our colleagues, locally and across the nation, may we be ever dependent upon the anointing strength of the Lord. He grants to each one of us the confidence to persevere with this mission of LIFE. Thank you for taking part in this combined effort to restore life to the little ones; also for your faithful support and prayers for this organization.
In conclusion, I praise God for allowing me to be used through this ministry opportunity to save the lives of preborn children – His creation and masterpiece. It is only through His anointing upon my life that I am able to fulfill all the responsibilities as Executive Director in addition to my full-time teaching responsibilities. I want to publicly accept the position of Executive Director of Teachers Saving Children® Inc. - National for another year.
On May 3rd, 2009, little did Dave and Theresa DeUnger realize that that very day they would receive news that would set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately lead to an answer to prayer the couple had prayed for 21 years. On this day, the couple was notified that a little guy was soon to be born and was available for adoption.
The DeUngers have been working towards a foreign adoption for several years and never considered a domestic adoption because, in the United States, the birth mom legally has 72 hours after delivering her baby to change her mind and decide to keep him. Were they willing to take that risk? Yet with this opportunity before them, the DeUngers believed that God had His hand in the situation and was calling them to parenthood. In referring to Luke 9:61, where the verse begins, “Lord, I will follow you but…” Theresa said, “(This verse) talks about the Lord asking you to do something huge that goes against your common sense in doing. It talks about stepping out in faith or taking a leap in the dark by obeying what He is asking you to do.”

Waiting through those 144 hours taught Dave and Theresa how to trust the Lord in the situation, that He was in control and everything was going to be okay.
When asked about the best part of being first-time parents, Theresa said, “I love holding him. I love it, too, when I feed him his bottle and talk to him and he just watches me and listens… I keep looking at him and just cannot believe he is ours. It is very humbling knowing the Lord chose Dave and me to be his parents and raise him in a loving Christian home.” Dave says he enjoys seeing the funny faces his son makes at him.
The couple is thankful for the many prayers that have been offered up on their behalf and are thankful for their church family. Theresa said, “Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine the Lord would answer our prayers with a newborn. He even let us experience carrying our baby out of the hospital. Don’t ever give up on praying, as you never know when or how the Lord will answer you, even if it takes 21 years!”

Kimberly Fandino from Oregon submitted an amendment to NEA Resolutions I-16. She moved to amend by addition the underlined portion as follows: “The National Education Association supports the human and civil rights surrounding family planning, including the right to reproductive freedom.” Her rationale stated that this issue has been divisive and controversial and that this amendment would make the primary statement about “rights” and not individual choices. Questions through points of information were asked of NEA General Counsel Bob Chanin concerning how this amendment would affect the way NEA currently files amicus briefs in support of laws and court cases such as Roe v Wade. Chanin remarked that the definition of human and civil rights is in the eye of the beholder. Thus, he said, a potential problem might arise if the human and civil rights of the fetus would need to be considered. “Therefore, would NEA be protecting the fetus?” Chanin asked. “It is sticky and complicated,” he said. By voice vote the amendment failed.
Carol Marshall from New York submitted a New Resolution which stated, “The National Education Association shall promote adult stem cell research.” She was denied by assembly delegates the right to speak to her item. The denial resulted from a recently approved Standing Rule that empowered delegates, by voice vote, to refuse the maker of a New Resolution the right to speak to it.
The NEA and its state and local affiliates do use union funds to engage in lobbying and political activities unrelated to their duties as exclusive bargaining representatives. If this concerns you, please know that there are options regarding involvement in union membership. Teachers Saving Children® Inc. – National and its state affiliates do not advocate any one option. We simply present our readers with all available courses to follow and respect their decision.
However, I do personally encourage that if you do make the decision to be a member of the NEA, then get involved! There are many ways to get involved without supporting NEA’s liberal agenda. Whichever course you follow, let your conservative voice be heard so your fellow educators will begin to understand the politics and policies of the NEA.

"The National Education Association supports family planning, including the right to reproductive freedom.
The Association urges the government to give high priority to making available all methods of family planning to women and men unable to take advantage of private facilities.
The Association also urges the implementation of community-operated, school-based family planning clinics that will provide intensive counseling by trained personnel.” (1985, 1986).

Why? Because the more our friends and neighbors learn about the content and implications of what Mr. Obama is proposing, the more concerned they become. The Obama plan would erode and deplete employer-based health insurance – and instead of replacing it with personal responsilibity, it would compel tens of millions of people to become dependent on Uncle Sam for their medical needs.
It would suffocate everyone from small business owners to upper-income taxpayers with incalculable new taxes. And it would mandate taxpayer funded abortion, abortificient drugs and limit end-of-life care. From the inevitability of rationed care to diminishing human dignity, the President’s plan amounts to a prescription for a health care disaster.
Please call your US Congressman and Senators today and ask them to vote “NO” on any National Health Care Bill.
