"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever."
For many individuals, Christmas is a time of gifts, entertaining, cards, celebrations, family, and the list goes on and on. So often we become so involved in the traditional activities of the season that the real meaning of Christmas is lost. As I have thought about various ministry opportunities this Christmas season, the Lord has impressed upon my heart to allow Him to use me to reach out by giving thanks and/or encouragement to many individuals who have crossed my path.
First of all, I want to lift thanks and praise to my Heavenly Father for sending His Son, Jesus, to earth as a babe with the ultimate purpose of giving His life on Calvary's cross, purchasing my salvation - a reconciled and renewed life with Him for eternity.
Secondly, I would like to express my praise and thanks to two TSC Board of Trustee members who have so faithfully served, but have felt the Lord calling them into other ministry opportunities. Judie Keller served on the Ohio Chapter TSC Board of Trustees since its inception in 1991 and the National TSC Board of Trustees since its inception in 1994. Doug Shamp served on the Ohio Chapter TSC Board of Trustees for six years and the National Board of Trustees since 1994. I thank them both for their dedication, support, and expertise and I thank the Lord for allowing them to be a part of my life. They will be greatly missed as members of the board, but I know wherever the Lord has them serve, they will continue the fight for the lives of the preborn.
Perhaps Christ is challenging you this Christmas season to set mind and heart on Him and to be open to the Spirit's prompting to send thanks and encouragement to others. Have a special blessed Christmas!
TSC of PA, Inc. continues to move forward in a somewhat slow, but nonetheless determined way along the road to becoming a voice for LIFE among professional educators in the state. The Board of Trustees met two times during this past membership year, on October 4, 1997 and on March 21, 1998. Most recently we met on October 3, 1998. Our meeting place continues to be arranged for us through the kindness of Deb Bosak who is very active in the pro-life movement in the State College area. We thank Father Martin D. McCamley, the pastor of the church where we are allowed to meet, despite that parish's unbelievable flurry of weekend activities.
We are happy that our membership holds steady even though our goal is to increase our numbers dramatically during this current membership year. We now have our own brochure and have begun to distribute copies at various events and to many interested persons. We are also happy to announce that the first edition of our newsletter will be ready to mail on November 1, 1998. We continue to make plans for improving our visibility and overall effectiveness as an organization. We are now beginning to think of ways to more actively involve our members in spreading the word about our organization. We are, as the saying goes, "small but mighty" and we plan to continue our dedicated efforts at promoting respect and reverence for life, from the moment of conception until natural death.
We are convinced that many educators in the state support the pro-life cause and would like to have a special voice in "Fighting for LIFE in Education." We hope to have a strong and obvious part in that. We will take advantage of opportunities to speak our message and to encourage others to join us.
Five of our eight Board of Trustee members attended the PA Pro-Life Federation's conference held at the Harrisburg Marriott on September 19, 1998. TSC of PA had an ad in the Federation's 1998 Pro-Life Reference Manual and we had a booth at the conference itself. Our board members distributed copies of our brochure and spoke with many persons.
Our next Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for April 10, 1999. In the meantime we have promised to do our part to "get the word out" and to make our own commitment to LIFE a genuine part of our lives. Our prayer is that we will be able, with God's help, to encourage others to join us in this struggle for one of our most basic freedoms, the right to life. We cannot stand idly by while millions of innocent children in the womb are prevented from seeing the light of day. We have pledged ourselves to choose LIFE. We promise to do all we can to help others, and most especially teachers of children and youth, to see the absolute necessity and the fundamental justice of doing the same. TSC of Pennsylvania, Inc. is pledged to that cause. Membership is open to anyone who is dedicated to the cause of protecting and saving the lives of the unborn.
On a personal note, I would like to praise the current members of our Board of Trustees who have already proven in many ways that they are truly champions of LIFE. I thank Linda Burroughs, Lee Keefer, Elleke and Scott Moyer, John Barrow, John Dunkle, and Barbara Purcell for their dedication, their witness, and their determination to "fight the good fight" for the most defenseless of our nation's citizens, the unborn. I am privileged to know them and to have them as a part of my life.
And finally, I would like to honor the memory of Kathy Berdanier, whom I knew but a short time and who was one of our founding members. She was such an ardent, but gentle defender of LIFE, even as her own life on this earth was drawing to a close. May she know the wonder of God's heavenly kingdom and the glorious joy of eternal LIFE!
On Saturday, October 25, 1997, six pro-life teachers from across Michigan got together to start proceedings to incorporate an affiliate state chapter of Teachers Saving Children®. This group included an elementary teacher, a high school teacher, two college professors, and two retired teachers. We had little in common other than a profound pain at the support given to the pro-death life view by our own teachers' union.
An ad hoc committee was formed and the affiliation process was begun. We wrote and approved the Constitution and Bylaws; a Board of Trustees was named. On November 2, 1998 the legal paperwork was completed. Now we are working on increasing our membership. Our job has certainly been made much easier by the fine groundwork already laid by the National TSC organization.
Michigan has been known as the home of "Doctor Death", Jack Kevorkian. As of November 2, Michigan is also the home of another group of pro-LIFE teachers: Teachers Saving Children® Inc. of MI. It is our prayer that the Lord will use us to impact our state's teachers' union for life.

Please note: There were a large number of membership renewals paid prior to September 1, 1998. Thank you for helping the Board have a better picture of what our finances would be like for the 1998-99 fiscal year. TSC does not solicit additional contributions beyond memberships, but does appreciate any additional contributions received throughout the year.
During her teaching career Juanita has been very active within the local association, having served in every position including president. She has tried very hard to "improve from the inside". Hanging over her desk has been a saying from Abbey Press and written in calligraphy: "Education - in spite of all the ideas and all the technology and atoms in the world, it all comes down to shaping one individual at a time." Juanita has used this saying to not only shape the individual students she teaches, but also to educate and challenge her professional colleagues regarding life issues.
Juanita is also very involved with other activities within her church and community. She is involved in St Mary's of Assumption Catholic Church, having served in a variety of capacities including being an Extraordinary minister. For the past thirteen years she has also been a member of an interdenominational prayer group which she considers one of the great life supports. Most recently she has been involved with Koininia, an interfaith renewal, retreat, and reconnect group. Since her college days she has been a member of Kappa Gamma Pi, a National Honor Society Faith and Service Organization. Currently she is chairing the program committee for the Kappa Gamma Pi National Convention to be held in Toledo Ohio in 1999.
Besides teaching, ministry, community, and organizational involvement, Juanita still has time for her family. Her husband, Vern, is retired and currently is a safety and support net for all activities! They have six grown children and twenty-one grandchildren, all of whom are active in local churches and a variety of community organizations. Her family also supports a variety of educational options - 2 of her children home school, 1 of her children is involved in private schooling, and 2 of her children have their children in public schools. Her family is a smorgasbord of life and love, all supporting one another.
TSC is very pleased to have Juanita Sattler as a member of our Board of Trustees. We look forward to her expertise, active involvement, and support.
