Where were you on November 7, 2000?
That is the question that will resound for years to come for every American citizen. Each one of us will, from this day forward, be able to look back on the incredible events of November 7, 2000 and remember - remembering the events of that day and our involvement or non-involvement in these historic events.
As I write this article, the outcome of the Presidential Election is still unresolved. By the time this newsletter is mailed the results may be confirmed and either George W Bush or Al Gore will be the next president of the United States of America. In the meantime, the world watches the daily changing events of a world power democratic nation.
In early American history, as our nation was on the brink of collapse, the Constitutional Convention delegates spent days debating behind closed doors. At one point during the proceedings when failure seemed eminent, Benjamin Franklin rose to speak to the delegates, challenging them to begin each session in prayer. It was a crucial time in our history, but our forefathers saw the importance of seeking guidance and wisdom from Almighty God. From that day forward, the Constitutional Convention proceeded without further disruption.
Once again, we are at a pivotal place in our nation's history. Tumultuous as these current days may seem, there is still hope. The one place where hope can be found has not even been mentioned by our nation's leaders - and that is seeking God through prayer and fasting. Have we become too dependent these days upon our political system, specifically the judicial branch, to determine the future of our nation?
Yet, Election Day 2000 has shown us what a small sacrifice it is for us to take the time to pray and to be involved in the political process. No citizen may, with honor, relinquish his or her right to vote on the grounds that "it makes no difference." A single vote does make all the difference in the world. Even the preservation of human life does indeed depend on the vigilance of just a single voter taking the time to pray, to be informed, and to vote.
Election Day 2000 has also shown us what a small sacrifice it is for us to be the "salt and light" to a darken world. As salt, we are to act as a preservative of what is truth; as light, we are to illuminate the truth. And who, if not us, will take the responsibility to carry the truth about life out into the darkness?
We are all so busy being good family members, caring for our spouses, children, and aging parents in addition to earning a living along with attending our children's (and sometimes grandchildren's and nieces/nephew's) extracurricular events, helping our friends and neighbors, serving our churches and communities, assisting the local pregnancy center, or reaching to a young women in crisis. In the midst of it all many of us even find it challenging to take time to read our mail, our newspaper, to take care of the small daily needs of life - even reading our Bible and praying can be a serious challenge to many of us. Time is so precious. Nonetheless, daily we are missing opportunities to be that "salt and light." It may be as simple as using a pro-life sticker each time you mail a letter or using pro-life checks each time you pay a bill. Involvement could mean sacrificing more such as contributing money to a specific need within the cause - the local pregnancy center or the TSC special exhibit "The Wonder of Life." The opportunities are endless!
Whatever direction the Lord leads for involvement, I must gently but firmly challenge each one of us, including myself, to step a little further out of our comfort zones and allow the Lord's empowerment to work within us so that we may boldly proclaim the truth regarding the sanctity of life. "Wise Men Still Seek Him." Will we be wise men (and women) this Christmas seeking the Lord as to how we can be that "salt and light" within our communities - our nation. It is but a small sacrifice to pay when it comes to the Sanctity of Life.
Pastor Johnny Hunter, his wife, and a number of others, were demonstrating outside an abortion facility in Buffalo, New York. The plan was to picket the abortion facility, and if possible, provide sidewalk counseling and additional information to the women seeking abortions. When this pro-life group arrived at the abortion clinic, the Lord impressed upon Pastor Hunter's spirit two words: "just pray." As the group began praying, a number of the brethren knelt in the snow, some even prostrating themselves, beseeching God's Holy Spirit to intervene as the women passed in cars on their way to appointments to kill their children.
At one point in the prayer vigil, a number of the employees from the abortion facility actually came out and confronted the pro-lifers. After a barrage of mocking condemnations from the pro-abortion-minded staff, Pastor Hunter's group responded by adding the staff to their prayers. After two hours in the cold New York snow, the pro-lifers felt it was time to leave. Though Pastor Hunter believed he followed the will of God, he left with a heavy heart because his eyes did not see any results.
A year later, Pastor Hunter returned to the abortion facility in Buffalo for more pro-life activities. During this time, a woman he knew excitedly came to tell him some incredible news. With her was another woman, and after a quick introduction, Pastor Hunter realized that the other woman was in fact at the Buffalo abortion facility the day he and his colleagues "just prayed."
She proceeded to tell him that on the day she made the abortion appointment, a staff member mentioned that there would be a protest by pro-life activists. The worker told her to be ready for some tough and despicable behavior from the fanatical "anti-choice" protesters, but not to be intimidated by their tactics.
Instead of seeing rude and uncaring protesters, this woman conveyed to Pastor Hunter that she observed a group of people praying on their hands and knees in the snow. This humble and loving demonstration emotionally touched her and other women who passed by them that cold January morning.
She said that once she was inside the abortion facility she found herself in the waiting room with 23 other women. It was there that her story took a very unusual turn. As the abortionists and their staff began preparing for the 24 abortions, one of the women in the waiting room felt her baby move and began clutching her stomach saying, "My baby, my child." She continued this lament a number of times, and then began to talk to the baby inside her in a loving and caring fashion. The woman next to her began to hold on to her stomach, talking to her baby the same way.
The woman telling the story also felt her baby kicking inside her, and within moments all the women in the waiting room were holding their stomachs crying out to their children that they loved them and they did not want to hurt them. Outside, a small group of pro-lifers continued to lift their prayers to heaven, not knowing the effect those prayers were having inside the abortion clinic.
The woman explained to Pastor Hunter that the abortionists and their staff tried to calm everyone down during this chaotic period so that they could proceed with the day's business. There was only one problem - none of the women wanted to go through with their planned abortion. The abortionists and staff realized that their clients were not going to abort, but did not allow the women to leave the facility until the pro-life protesters left.
After hearing the story, Pastor Hunter rejoiced with the woman in what God's Holy Spirit did through their prayers and witness on that cold and snowy January day in Buffalo. The woman also showed Pastor Hunter her baby, who was rescued by the prayers of this small group of obedient Christians. As always, it is "not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of Hosts" (Zechariah 4:6)!

Prayers are being answered! On Saturday, April 29th, the group that meets on Market Street, across from the abortion mill, to pray to save babies was dispersing.
Along came a young woman with a baby girl. The woman began to explain: "I just had to come over to talk with you," she started. "Last year about this time I had an appointment to have an abortion. As I came down the street, I saw you praying and looked at the large picture showing an aborted baby. I just couldn't go through with it. I canceled my appointment. Here is my baby daughter. She will be a year old next week. So, please keep up the work you are doing. It does save lives."
Needless to say, we all were in tears. We thanked her for coming. Father Witt asked her to write a testimonial and mail it to us. The following is her letter:
May 09, 2000
Dear "Market Street Friends,"
I am sending you this letter to thank you for saving me from killing my child and my soul. A year ago July I had an appointment to kill my baby at the abortion clinic on Market Street. I drove in and noticed a group of protestors across the street. I tried not to pay attention because my mind was made up. I was not married, fear of what others will think, being low income, and all ready caring for a child from a previous marriage had convinced me that tearing my child limb per limb would be the only way. As I was going through my so called "counseling" at the clinic, where I was told "yes all your reasons for this murder are right...and will this be cash, money order, or put on your Visa?" I told my "counselor" that my made out money order was in my car and I would be right back. As I was leaving to get the money order she told me to hurry so they can start the procedure and to "pay no mind to those people out there." I went outside and when I looked across the street...I saw HER. A giant picture of my own mother - MARY -. I looked into Her eyes and saw the sorrow in them as she stood next to the picture of an aborted baby and I then realized Mother Mary would never kill any of Her children and I should never even consider killing mine, which is also Hers. I then raced out of the "death clinic" and chose Life. I like that word - L I F E -. I then faced all those so called reasons for abortion, which was not the easiest thing to conquer, but it was so much easier than choosing abortion. On May 4th, 1999 I brought my baby into the world. I stopped to thank my "Market Street Friends" recently and introduced my daughter to you to thank you for being at the right time at the right place. Your efforts are not in vain and if you save one precious life, it is all worth it. Thank you so much again, and God bless you all.

We need to encourage NEA members who represent our philosophy to run for delegate; it is an unforgettable experience that every educator should have at least once in his or her career. We need delegates who believe that our dues money should not be spent to support abortion and should not be spent to support any issue that is not directly related to education.
If you have made the choice of maintaining union membership, please help us fight this battle. Now is the time to run for NEA delegate. It's so simple. Just contact your NEA State Affiliate office and/or your local association president for complete information. Don't make it complicated by campaigning, because if the Lord wants you to win, you'll win!
If you cannot attend the NEA convention, please encourage other educators who share our views to consider becoming a delegate. Get involved either as a candidate and/or educate yourself about the candidates. Then PRAY and VOTE!
Last spring individuals contributed $3376.00 towards the TSC exhibit at the NEA Expo 2000; TSC spent approximately $3320.00 of the total amount contributed. Your generosity helped TSC pay the exhibit expenses and provide free educational materials to hundreds of teachers. Once again we are asking for your generosity so that we might expose more individuals to the "awesome" truth of a little child growing in his/her mother. Being pro-life and pro-family at the NEA RA is not easy, but we are determined, with God's help, to open the eyes of people to the wonder of human life and God's creation.
Please make checks payable to "TSC Inc. - National" and designate the amount towards this endeavor as "NEA Exhibit." Each child born into this world will thank you for your contribution, no matter how large or small, towards educating teachers about "The Wonder of Life".
