  • FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

    Connie Bancroft

“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world…So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born…”

    -Luke 2:1-6

Jesus Christ was born when “the time came”. He came into this world at the perfect time to live amongst us, to minister, and then to provide the redemptive sacrifice at Calvary.

It is so amazing to watch how God works for His perfect plan to be fulfilled. Joseph and Mary were living in Nazareth. Mary was nearing the time of her delivery. And God used the heart and decree of a pagan emperor, Caesar Augustus, to move Joseph and Mary from Nazareth to Bethlehem and thus to fulfill the prophecy of Micah 5:2. God also perfectly timed the delivery of the Christ child. How amazing to watch God’s movement through the events of lives.

Recently I have experienced God’s perfect timing. For the past 13 years I have had the privilege of renting a home that was perfectly placed for me. The Lord provided much through that location and through my landlords over the years.

Over the past 2-3 years, I had been sensing the need for a new place to live and from which to minister. There had been significant changes within my life and ministry and also in the lives of my landlords. All of these changes were indications to me that I needed to move. However, there were always closed doors whenever I began to consider a new location.

Then this past Labor Day weekend, I received the news from a tearful landlord that the home I was renting would be needed for a difficult situation beyond their control. Originally, they had wanted me to be moved by November, but because the middle school where I teach was also being moved into a new building in November, my landlord gave me until January 1st to find a new place to live.

School was starting. I already had a professional conference in Colorado scheduled for early October. Ministry at church was increasing due to some changes taking place there, and my daily responsibilities were all around me. At the same time, I could clearly see the Lord’s hand powerfully at work in my life.

I viewed three houses, all of which were empty. The third one I looked at was the perfect size and in a great location. The day before I left for Colorado, my brother, who is a contractor, inspected the house. When I returned from Colorado a week later, I made an offer. Within a week the price was agreed upon; my credit and the loan were approved. Less than three weeks later I closed on the house. Two weeks after that, several men from my church helped me move both my belongings and all the belongings of Teachers Saving Children® into my new home. Amazing--how quickly this process occurred in the midst of a very busy life of ministry and teaching! The Lord had worked out every detail. (Incidentally, our middle school has not yet moved into the new building due to some delays, giving me more time to organize my home and office before having to reorganize my classroom.)

Today, as we in the pro-life movement work diligently to restore respect and protection to children, let us remember God’s perfect timing. He sees the “big picture.” He knows what He is about. And, during this Christmas season, let us reflect and rejoice in the way that the Lord has perfectly timed events in our own lives. Our testimonies can be an encouragement to others, perhaps even to those in critical life-decision situations, for “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

    2004 NEA REPRESENTATIVE ASSEMBLY

Washington DC, July 4-7: All policies of the NEA are adopted by the delegates to the annual Representative Assembly. These delegates are selected by their colleagues in the local and state affiliates to represent their views in the deliberation of the assembly.

We need to encourage NEA members who represent our philosophy to run for delegate; it is an unforgettable experience that every educator should have at least once in his or her career. We need delegates who believe that our dues money should not be spent to support abortion and should not be spent to support any issue that is not directly related to education. (See the articles below.)

If you have made the choice of maintaining union membership, please prayerfully consider becoming a “Voice for Life” amongst our colleagues. Now is the time to run for NEA delegate. It’s so simple. Just contact your NEA State Affiliate office and/or your local association president for complete information. Don’t make it complicated by campaigning, because if the Lord wants you to be a delegate, you’ll win!

If you cannot attend the 2004 NEA Representative Assembly in Washington DC, please encourage other educators who share our views to consider becoming a delegate. Get involved either as a candidate or educate yourself about the candidates who are running for NEA delegate positions in your area. Ask them their views on abortion. Tell them your views. Then PRAY and VOTE for the NEA delegate who will best represent the children of this nation.

NEA and PLANNED PARENTHOOD TIE UP ON SEX EDUCATION ISSUES

The National Education Association and the Planned Parenthood Federation work together on issues dealing with comprehensive sex and health education. In fact, Randy Moody, the Manager of Federal Policy and Politics for the NEA, serves on the national board of Planned Parenthood, the biggest abortion referral agency in the United States.

ABSTINENCE A MISTAKE? NEA and SEICUS LOBBY CONGRESS

Concerned Women for America reported that the National Education Association (NEA) and the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) scheduled a planned breakfast meeting on October 9, 2003 with members of Congress to discredit abstinence-only programs. The presentation was titled “Back to School: The Most Important Things our Young People WON’T Learn at School This Year: How Censorship, Fear, and Shame in Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage Messages Put Youth at Risk.” The lobbying effort was intended to deride President Bush’s support of abstinence programs and to convince legislators that the $120 million budgeted for abstinence-only programs this year is a mistake.

    "THE WONDER OF LIFE"

By faith, the Teachers Saving Children® Inc. – National Board of Trustees has made a decision to apply for exhibit space at the NEA Expo 2004 during the NEA pre-RA activities. The purpose of our exhibit area will be to promote and provide educational classroom materials, especially for science and health teachers. We will once again be putting the facts and the wonder of human development before the largest group of decision-makers in the teachers’ union.

Last spring individuals contributed $3942.00 towards the Teachers Saving Children® exhibit at the NEA Expo 2003. Your generosity helped Teachers Saving Children® pay the exhibit expenses, plus provide free educational materials and the book Before You Were Born to hundreds of teachers. Once again we are asking for your generosity so that we might expose more individuals to “awesome” photos, fetal models, and descriptive brochures that show children at various stages of development growing inside their mothers.

Please make checks payable to “Teachers Saving Children® Inc. – National” and designate any amount towards this endeavor as “NEA/Wonder of Life Exhibit.” Only designated amounts will be applied towards this endeavor. Thank you in advance for any amount you can contribute, no matter how large or small, and for helping to educate teachers abut “The Wonder of Life.”

    WHY PRO-CHOICE IS REALLY PRO-ABORTION

No one is really for “choice” in general in the abortion debate. We all want some choices to be legally available, and others to be illegal. As the table below shows, both pro-lifers and pro-choicers wish to permit some choices and to forbid other choices.

Attitudes of Pro-Lifers and Pro-Choicers Toward Possible Pregnancy Choices

Possible Choice in Pregnancy Pro-Life Pro-Choice
Carry baby to term, raise Permit Permit
Carry to term, adopt baby out Permit Permit
Carry baby to term, kill after birth Forbid Forbid
Counsel women to commit suicide Forbid Forbid
Kill unborn child in the womb Forbid Permit

Hence, both pro-lifers and pro-choicers are “pro-choice” and “anti-choice” depending on the choice. In fact, the only choice the two disagree on is whether to legally permit killing the unborn. Pro-lifers wish to forbid this choice, while pro-choicers wish to permit it. Pro-choicers are not simply for “choice,” but for a specific choice – the choice of abortion – being kept legal. It is the only choice under contention in the abortion debate. Hence, to be pro-choice in this debate is to be pro-abortion.

A PRAYER THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON FOR EXPECTANT MOTHERS

“Lord, grant the graces to expectant mothers so they will love and care for their unborn children and will resist the temptations to be involved in any activity which might harm the sacred human life which they are carrying. Inspire and guide others in our society to help expectant mothers to joyfully and safely give birth…Amen.”

"Build Unity on the Life Principles"

    31st ANNUAL MARCH FOR LIFE

    JANUARY 22, 2004

    WASHINGTON DC

Thirty-one years ago on January 22, 1973, the US Supreme Court handed down the Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton
decisions that brought about abortion on demand in America through all nine months of pregnancy. Awareness of this
tragic decision should spur us on to make this coming March for Life the largest one ever!

The March for Life Benefits All
    * It gives voice to the children.
    * It gives encouragement to our friends in government.
    * It encourages us.
    * It trains young leaders.

For complete details concerning the events of January 22nd,
please contact your local Right to Life Chapter or State Right to Life office.

For those pro-life teachers and school employees who can't go to Washington DC,
it is suggested that you attend the pro-life marches or rallies being held in your own local areas.

Let's stand together for the Sanctity of Life.
