Over the past several months I have been seeking the Lord in a special way through extended times of prayer and fasting. It is during these times that I have persevered in seeking the balance between trusting the Lord through times of waiting with times of trusting through partnering with the Lord by stepping out on faith and pressing forward. It is during these times of seeking that the Lord continues to bring across my path illustrations through His Word and through the testimonies of others that encourage me to remain faithful and obedient to the set purpose and ministry He has placed before me.

The following story, which appeared in the Canton Area Right to Life March for Life promotional material, is one illustration that has recently touched my life.

    The Lord appeared to a man and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin. The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might. The man did this, day after day, for many years.
    Seeing that the man was showing signs of discouragement, Satan placed "negative" thoughts into the man's mind, giving the man the impression that the task was impossible and that he was a failure.
    These thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man even more. "Why kill myself over this-I'll just put in my time, giving just the minimum effort and that will be good enough!" But, one day he decided to make it a matter of prayer and take his troubled thoughts to the Lord.
    "Lord, I have labored long and hard in your service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked. Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock. What is wrong? Why am I failing?"
    The Lord responded compassionately, "My friend, when long ago I asked you to serve me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all your strength, which you have done. Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push. Now you come to Me thinking you have failed. Look at yourself. Your arms are strong and muscled, your legs have become massive and strong. Through opposition you have grown much and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. Yet you haven't moved the rock. But your calling was to be obedient and to push and to exercise your faith and trust in my wisdom. This you have done. I, my friend, will now move the rock."

From the very beginning the mission of Teachers Saving Children® was and still is to establish among professional educators' organizations, specifically the National Education Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), a respect for all human life from conception to natural death. Our mission has remained focused, the organization has grown, and TSC continues to make an impact as our presence and visibility across the nation continue to increase.

The reason our mission continues to grow is God's hand, guiding and allowing us to do what we do. Although sometimes the results are not visible, He has only asked us to remain faithful and obedient to the set purpose He has placed before us. Many times what may seem like unanswered prayers are actually answers that are only delayed, not refused. Oftentimes the uplifted prayer is registered, and underneath it the words: "My time is not yet come." God has a set time as well as a set purpose. He still orders the entire universe and He will move the rock of abortion and of the pro-abortion positions of the NEA and the AFT in His time. Our responsibility and calling is to remain faithful and obedient to the ministry that He has placed before us.

TSC is confident that the Lord Almighty has much more in store for us as an organization and as individuals in 2000 and beyond. May we never grow weary in speaking up for the little ones. May we remain faithful to Him and that which He has called us to do.

MAKING YOUR VOICE HEARD!

One way to make your voice heard when decisions are made is to serve in an elected or appointed position with the association. Many local delegates, officers, and building representatives are elected in the spring. Many committee positions are appointed in the spring, but openings may still be available in the fall when the school year begins.

In the February 1999 NEA NOW, a NEA publication for local leaders, the NEA did an excellent job in letting us know that "We are the NEA" and how we need to get involved in our association.

It is never...too early to start thinking about candidates for local Association office or Association rep slots. Remember, most folks active in the Association first became active because someone recognized their potential and asked them to become involved.

No one's active involvement...in our Association is more important than the Association rep, a local's first, and sometimes only, direct contact with members. A local's Association rep system is working well when members know they can go to the AR in their building and get answers to their questions and solutions to their problems. A smoothly functioning AR system "senses" when things are not going well - and alerts local leaders to emerging issues.

Local Association rep structures...vary from state to state. Some reps are information conduits. Some actively promote the profession and the Association. Many actively assist members. The best rep systems combine all these elements.

A good Association rep...is always prepared, especially when trouble is brewing. Some tips for any AR to share with co-workers before trouble escalates: Remain calm and courteous. Ask that another member or witness be present. Listen carefully to any accusations and then ask for time to think before responding. Call the Association representative. Don't admit guilt or accept blame. Don't sign or make any verbal agreements. Keep copies of all papers relating to the situation. Make written, dated records of any conferences with administrators, including names of witnesses and others involved.

Do you know someone...who has the potential to become a strong addition to your local's Association rep network? Ask that member to become part of the team - and support them with training and assistance when they say yes. (Source: NEA NOW, February 1999)

That someone just might be you! However, if you do not wish to serve in an elected or appointed position, you can still express your opinion. Just contact your building representative, local officer, and/or local delegate(s) to the state and/or national representative assemblies. If you don't know who these individuals are, then ask! Let's get involved and/or express our opinions! Let's make our voices heard!

WHO WILL REPRESENT YOU AT NEA?

Quick - who casts your vote at the NEA Representative Assembly? If you don't know, you should know.

Often we know who our local officers and building representatives are. However, most of our dues money, in fact - hundreds of dollars, goes beyond the local to other levels of the Association. Knowing who represents us and how they vote isn't just a matter of principle; it's a matter of how our dues money is being spent.

Comments are often heard that the NEA and its state affiliates have a strong tradition of democratic governance. The NEA Representative Assembly, the annual meeting of the Association, is the largest deliberative body in the world. During the Representative Assembly, delegates vote on issues that affect us in many ways: they adopt all the NEA policies, the budget, and the resolutions; enact legislative agendas; consider many new business items; elect Association officers; and vote on amendments to the NEA governing documents.

All delegates are selected in the local and state affiliates by their colleagues to represent their views in the deliberation of the assembly. It is not too late to get involved. Details for running as a state delegate can be received from your state affiliate office. The state delegate elections will take place between now and mid-March.

For local delegate representation to the NEA RA, check with your local president. Election results from local affiliates are not due to their state affiliates until April 15. Unless your local Constitution & Bylaws allows for officers to serve as your delegates and/or allows for multi-year terms for delegates, most voting should take place between now and the first part of April.

So watch those local memos and newsletters carefully for NEA delegate election information. We will only get good representation when members take the time to get involved by educating ourselves about the candidates, and VOTING!

AFT HAS A STRONG PRO-ABORTION POSITION

Although most TSC members are affiliated with the NEA, there are some who are affiliated with the AFT (American Federation of Teachers - AFL-CIO). In 1992, one of TSC's members contacted AFT to find out specifically its position on abortion. Recently, another TSC supporter contacted AFT and received the same information.

The following information is quoted from the 1992 response letter and the AFT's legislative and political activity resolution.

From the letter: "While no policy resolutions concerning abortion per se have been adopted, delegates to AFT's 1981 convention did approve the attached resolution, 'Women's Right to Choice' in response to the proposed Hyde Amendment in Congress."

Legislative and Political Activity Resolution:

72. WOMEN'S RIGHT TO CHOICE

  "WHEREAS, women have the right to exercise control over their own bodies, and
  WHEREAS, legislation has been proposed which would nullify this right;

  RESOLVED, that the AFT strongly oppose any legislation or constitutional amendment which would abridge or deny women's right to choice in regard to reproductive freedom, and
  RESOLVED, that the AFT ask the AFL-CIO to take similar action. (1981)"


It should be noted that the AFT definition of "reproductive freedom" is not known, but it is assumed that the definition is the same as the NEA's definition. According to the NEA, reproductive freedom "refers to dual rights - the rights to abortion and to carry a pregnancy to term." (Deceptions by the Radical Right against the National Education Association, NEA Human and Civil Rights, 1994, page 9.) [Emphasis mine].

WAL-MART REFUSES TO SELL PREVEN

For those of you who have not heard, Planned Parenthood is planning a boycott of Wal-Mart because Wal-Mart will not sell Preven. Preven is being called the "day after" contraceptive. It is not a contraceptive. The egg will have already been fertilized. This is an abortion device and Wal-Mart refuses to sell it.

Planned Parenthood is asking all women and men who agree with a woman's right to choose (to kill) to boycott Wal-Mart and to write them letting them know why they are being boycotted. To contact Wal-Mart customer service, call 1-800-WalMart. Please let them know we appreciate their stand. We must not let them down. They are standing up for what is right.

IT'S A MIRACLE!

"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." (Ephesians 3:20-21)

When my brother Claude and his wife Sonia were married twenty-two years ago in October 1977, they began their marriage with their lives dedicated to the Lord and committed to one another. It was the beginning of a marriage that was established for a lifetime.

Early in their married life the doctors said that they would not be able to have children of their own, but they decided to trust God who is the God of miracles. They kept their hearts and lives focused on the Lord and allowed Him to use them in a variety of ministry opportunities through their church, their families, their community, and their construction business. Over the years, the Lord has mightily used them to touch the hearts and lives of individuals, including many teenagers.

In July 1999 I was home for only a couple of days between trips. My sister-in-law, Sonia, left a message for me to call while I was home. The news received was glorious; for Sonia found out she was pregnant. Obviously not planned nor by any means expected by Claude and Sonia, this pregnancy was planned of the Lord. His timing is so perfect!

Although 41 years of age and expecting her first child, Sonia had a very healthy and successful pregnancy. On Wednesday afternoon, January 19, 2000 I received the news that Sonia had gone to the hospital. Although about 10 days early, the time was near, but the final hours were difficult. Although labor was induced at midnight, the doctor finally made the decision early Thursday afternoon to perform a C-section. That decision was the Lord's intervention and guiding hand.

At 1:33 PM, Thursday, January 20, 2000, a very active, healthy, 20 1/2 inch, 7 pounds 8 ounce boy, Claude Edward Bancroft Jr., was born; a miracle that only God could perform and provide. A testimony worth shouting and celebrating. A blessing from "Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine..."

It is these miracle stories that encourage us to persevere in the work and ministry that the Lord has set before us. God is still in the miracle working business. Y2K PREPARATION COMPLETED

A special thanks to everyone for your patience over the past four months. The TSC National office spent November and December preparing for Y2K by updating the computer database system. On December 31, 2000 at 8 PM, the database preparation work was completed. Praise the Lord!

We are now using the Microsoft Access database system for our data files. We ask for your continued patience as we learn the new system. A special thanks to my mother, Ida Mae Bancroft, who volunteered many hours to help with some of the data entry work.

The next major project will be the completion of the TSC website. Once it is completed to date, the website address will be listed.
