FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Connie Bancroft

"As I looked out a moment ago from Reichstag, that embodiment of German unity, I noticed words crudely spray-painted upon the wall, perhaps by a young Berliner: 'This wall will fall. Beliefs become a reality.' Yes, across Europe, this wall will fall. For it cannot withstand faith, it cannot withstand truth. The wall cannot withstand freedom."

Ronald Reagan - June 12, 1987

Paraphrasing Ronald Reagan's statement, the same can be said about the pro-life vs the pro-abortion movements. As we continue to be a voice in sharing the truth about the development of human life in utero, abortion advocates will not be able to withstand faith, truth, or freedom. As the truth is shared over and over again, it becomes ingrained in our hearts and lives. Eventually the truth becomes our beliefs, our convictions, and then reality. As we are faithful to our mission in sharing the truth, hearts will be changed and babies will have the opportunity to experience life.

The deep conviction that we have about the sanctity of life and our mission to be a "voice for life in education" are reasons why during the September 29, 2001 TSC Board of Trustees meeting, the trustees made a decision to make application for an exhibit booth at the NEA Expo 2002 in Dallas TX. Since the monies received through regular memberships and donations are already budgeted and disbursed very carefully, this decision was made by faith, as there is no money budgeted or available for this special ministry endeavor. Thus, all the monies for this ministry opportunity needed to be raised through special donations.

The Lord proved His faithfulness as the amount of monies received from September through February was beyond expectations (Ephesians 3:20-21). There was enough money in the exhibit account to pay the entire exhibit fee for the space requested. The application was prepared and mailed on March 9, 2002. On May 24, 2002, written approval was received for the exhibit space and no restrictions were received regarding our materials.

In addition, the Lord has been faithful in providing the funds needed to cover both the miscellaneous fees and the replenishing of items needed for the 300 bags of free educational materials for distribution. All of those age-appropriate, positive, colorful, and scientifically accurate materials regarding the wonder of life in utero have been ordered and the final preparations are being made for the trip to Dallas. Thank you to each of you who have already given towards this special endeavor.

This year the TSC Inc. - National Board of Trustees made an additional decision by faith. They decided to include the book Donnie Lost in the Cornfield by Judy Bruns, a very active TSC member, for distribution during the NEA Expo 2002. Since the author needed to have the book reprinted, our order needed to be made in April prior to the receipt of any donations towards this specific purchase. The initial estimated total cost of this purchase was approximately $3000. Although seemingly a large expense for this additional item, the Lord has already provided approximately 2/3 of the total amount needed. The books have arrived from the publisher, and as soon as the invoice arrives, the bill will need to be paid.

Not many individuals may be able to give large amounts of money specifically towards this extra special ministry opportunity that TSC has in Dallas. But if each of the 340 TSC members would contribute $3.50 - less than the cost of one meal - $1190 would be generated and the bill would be paid. Imagine the smile of a handicapped child who has been given life because a heart was touched and changed!

Once again, the Lord has laid a mission field before us by opening the door for TSC to go and share the truth about the sanctity and the preciousness of human life. I believe that through the continual presentation of the truth, not only will hearts be changed, but also precious lives will be saved.

The harvest is ripe! Prayerfully consider being a part of this extra special endeavor by sending in your contribution today.

Note: Please make checks payable to "TSC Inc. - National". Please carefully note how the amount given is to be designated ("NEA Exhibit") so that the contribution will be appropriately allocated.

WHY I SUPPORT TEACHERS SAVING CHILDREN®

By Janet Folger

It amazes me that a major organization would openly advocate killing the very constituency they are supposed to represent, but that's exactly what the National Education Association (NEA) does.

Their official policy states in part, "The National Education Association supports family planning, including the right to reproductive freedom."

("Reproductive freedom," of course, is just a nice way of saying you're pro-abortion without actually saying so.)

I'll bet that most teachers who are in the NEA don't even realize that their union dues have funded pro-abortion politics, which includes marches on our nation's capital. The NEA also openly and proudly endorses Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, and lets them into the schools where they can have access to our children.

When I'm speaking to younger audiences, I tell them, "Planned Parenthood's first plan for your life was to kill you. Why would you listen to them now?" The same holds true for the NEA, which, if you think about it, is putting teachers out of work: the fewer kids, the fewer teachers that will be needed to educate them.

Thousands of teenage girls every year are told that their only option is abortion, and are actively discouraged from telling their parents. One teacher in Pennsylvania even took a 13-year-old girl across state lines to get an abortion. When the parents found out and reported it to the school, guess who the school sided with? The teacher!

Needless to say, there are countless other stories like this that we never hear about, and it all goes back to the NEA's pro-abortion position.

That's why the work of Teachers Saving Children® is so vitally important. Under the leadership of my good friend Connie Bancroft, this group of dedicated pro-lifers has been in the trenches for years on behalf of the children they will one day teach. Every year, this dedicated group educates teachers on how the NEA uses their union dues to support abortion, and persistently works with NEA leaders to drop their pro-abortion stance.

Given the outstanding track record of Teachers Saving Children®, I didn't hesitate to ask Connie if she would like to be a co-sponsor of our Shake the Nation Back to Life campaign. (For more information, please see the April TSC newsletter.)

It's organizations like Teachers Saving Children® which give me hope that we will one day see children protected again in our lifetime. I fully support their work, because what they do matters.

Editor's Note: Our special guest columnist this month is Janet Folger who is the National Director for the CENTER FOR RECLAIMING AMERICA, an outreach of Coral Ridge Ministries in Florida. Prior to her current position, Janet served as the Legislative Director of the Ohio Right to Life Society, where she successfully lobbied for passage of the nation's first partial-birth abortion ban, which sparked the national debate in Congress and throughout the nation. She graduated with honors from Cleveland State University with Bachelors and Masters degrees in Communications. She has debated culturally controversial figures such as Jack Kevorkian and Bill Baird, and today is an accomplished and sought-after speaker having appeared on ABC's Evening News, NBC's Today Show, CBS This Morning as well as having been the featured speaker at nationally recognized conferences, banquets, and universities. Thank you, Janet, for sharing your thoughts with us.

NEA GETS ITS HAND SLAPPED BY THE EEOC

Ed Facts - May 24, 2002
Family Research Council

"The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has taken the National Education Association (NEA) to task for violating its members' religious rights. A recently released EEOC ruling threatened to sue the union if it continues to require teachers with religious objections to annually file a written request that their dues not be spent on the NEA political agenda.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits union officials from forcing members to contribute against their religious beliefs. Attorneys for the dissenting teachers argued that the requirement for the objection to be made annually in writing was an undue burden. The EEOC investigation was prompted in part by an Ohio teacher's complaint that he was made to annually complete a lengthy questionnaire describing his religious views in detail.

The NEA and its state officials must now eliminate the annual procedure or face the EEOC in court. The ruling frees teachers from what many have described as an annual hassle with the union."

Editor's Note: Two related articles under the main title of "NEA Charged with Misusing Funds" can be found in the May 2002 edition of the Education Reporter. This publication can be located through the Eagle Forum web site at: http://www.eagleforum.org.

2002 NEA CONVENTION

From June 30 - July 5, nearly 10,000 NEA members elected by their state and local colleagues will gather at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, TX for the 2002 NEA Representative Assembly. The first 21/2 days will include exhibits, open hearings, and other preliminary activities and events. Beginning July 2, delegates will spend four days conducting the business concerning the policies and activities of the NEA by voting on proposed amendments to the NEA Standing Rules and Constitution and Bylaws; electing officers; voting on Resolutions; accepting the reports of various committees; and debating many new business items.

It is vital that you contact your delegates to the NEA Representative Assembly, letting them know your philosophy on various issues. If you have a delegate(s) from your local attending the NEA convention, contact should be easy. However, many locals do not or cannot send delegates to the NEA RA. Therefore, state at-large delegates or cluster delegates need to be contacted. If you need the names and addresses of your delegate(s), please contact your local president or your NEA State Affiliate office.

Get involved by contacting your NEA delegates! Remind them to vote according to the wishes of the membership they represent! And then hold them accountable by requesting a written report upon their return! Remember: They are your representatives!
