FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Connie Bancroft

Recent dramatic changes within our government have caused a turning point in national politics. The NEA was a vital force behind these recent changes. As a result it is reasonable to expect more federal support of abortion all in the name of "choice". It is also very possible to see the continued and even increased support and lobbying from the NEA for the issues related to abortion, school-based clinics, promotion of condoms, sex education, etc.

In spite of the recent Presidential executive orders, all is not lost. I recently participated in the March for Life on January 22 - the 20th Anniversary of "Roe v Wade". It was an event that definitely represented the grassroots people of America. The days that followed were ones of trying again and again to reach the White House Comment Office and Congressional Offices by phone. Yes, the people in the grassroot communities of America are speaking - and will continue to speak until they are heard.

The need for an organization such as Teachers Saving Children® is vital in today's society. If any group would defend the unborn - the very people, the very clients we serve - it should be teachers! Thus the need to get the word out, to join together and support this cause, is imminent!

There are many exciting things happening with TSC. I hope that you too can get excited and involved in rescuing our professional educators' organizations. The impact we will have will be partially dependent upon the number of people we represent. You do NOT have to be a member of NEA or AFT to get involved in TSC. We need all of you who agree with our purpose to join with us and help us fight for the lives of the unborn.

Remember, we can make a difference! Let's work together to save both the lives of the unborn and America's schools.

KEEP INFORMED!    GET INVOLVED!

Whether or not you belong to the NEA, or any other professional educators' organization, they still represent you. TSC encourages all educators and school employees who are alarmed or offended by the NEA leadership's reprehensible practices to keep informed and then get involved. It doesn't matter how much or how little your involvement might be. The important thing is getting involved however and/or whenever you feel the most comfortable.

Every employee of a Local school district should have a copy of the Master Contract (Master Agreement) between the Association and the Board of Education. This contract (or agreement) covers all employees whether or not they are members of the Association. Every member of the Association should have a copy of the Local Association's Constitution & Bylaws. This is the governing document of the Association. Also read your Ohio Schools, NEA Today, and any District and/or Local newsletter.

One way to make your voice heard when decisions are made is to serve in an elected or appointed position. Most local positions are elected in the spring. If you do not wish to serve in an elected or appointed position, you can still express your opinion. Just contact your local president and/or the person who represents your OEA unit.

OEA REGIONAL & STATE RA DATES SET

OEA Districts will be holding their Spring regional Representative Assemblies in April. Locals elect delegates to these regional meetings. It is also very important for OEA delegates to attend their regional meetings, as well as the OEA RA. If you are not a District or OEA delegate, but have an interest in what is happening, you can still attend these meetings as a visitor.

The District meetings are as follows:

COTA - April 3 (Saturday) 614-253-4735
ECOEA - April 24 (Saturday) 216-499-8587
EOEA - April 22 (Thursday) 614-453-2186
NCOEA - April 24 (Saturday) 419-281-6263
NEOEA - April 3 (Saturday) 216-845-2030
NWOEA - April 1 (Thursday) 419-424-1708
SEOEA - April 14 (Wednesday) 614-286-3134
SWOEA - April 3 (Saturday) 513-771-3319
WOEA - April 21 (Wednesday) 513-898-1324

The phone numbers given are those listed in Ohio Schools for the office or home phone of the administrative staff person. You can call for exact times and location of these meetings.

The OEA Representative Assembly will be Friday and Saturday, April 30 - May 1 at Veterans Memorial in Columbus.

Life Issues Caucus is interested in receiving the names of pro-life delegates who will be attending any of the District and/or OEA Representative Assemblies. These persons do NOT need to be members of TSC. Please contact Gary Winney, chairman (216-944-4409) as soon as possible.

GET INVOLVED BY VOTING FOR YOUR NEA DELEGATE

All policies of the NEA are adopted by the delegates to the annual Representative Assembly. These delegates are selected by their colleagues in the local and state affiliates to represent their views in the deliberation of the assembly. However, the policies adopted do not represent the majority of the teaching profession. We all can get involved by voting for those who represent our philosophy. This year's NEA RA will be June 30 - July 5 in San Francisco, CA.

Local delegates to the NEA RA must be nominated and elected, and the name(s) reported to the OEA office by April 10, 1993. By February 15, 1993 NEA will be sending information regarding local delegate allocations to the local presidents.

At-large delegates are elected by the membership representing the various OEA units. Ballots plus biographical information of each candidate for at-large elections will be sent to the locals in February. Ballots are due back to the OEA office by March 15, 1993. If you do not receive a biography of the candidates with your ballots, contact your local president.

Results of the at-large delegate elections will be reported to all local association presidents within three weeks of the election deadline with a notation that the results be posted in each building of the local. Be sure these results are posted in your building and then make a personal contact with your representative(s), letting them know your philosophy on various issues.

Get involved by educating yourself about the candidates and VOTE!

MEMBERSHIP

Presently we have 84 paid members who represent a wide variety of areas. Besides NEA members, TSC represents persons who teach in districts that are independent of national teacher associations, AFT members, retired teachers, teachers who are currently on leave, parents, college students, home schoolers, and other concerned individuals.

The membership year is from September 1 - August 31. We will be contacting every current member about membership renewal in July. A mailing for our annual membership drive will be done in early August.

Membership for this current year is still open to all pro-life/pro-family educators and concerned citizens and will be good until August 31, 1993. When joining TSC of Ohio you will automatically be a member of the national organization. Contributions and memberships are NOT tax deductible. TSC PUBLIC RELATIONS

We need your help in getting information about TSC out to as many people as possible. We continue to do public relations through the local Right to Life Chapters. We would like to be able to include our literature at Right to Life county fair booths again this summer. If you have contacts with local Right to Life Chapters and want to help out in this way, please contact TSC for more details.

We are also in the process of printing a new colorful brochure. Hopefully these should be ready by March 1st. If you have any other ideas as to how we can inform people about our organization, please let us know.

ON THE ABORTION ISSUE...PRO-CHOICE or PRO-LIFE!

Pro-choice defined: Means the individual is pro-abortion. They are for the choice to abort (kill) unborn babies. They believe there should be no laws protecting unborn babies.

Pro-life defined: Means the individual is for the choice of life for unborn babies. They believe there should be laws protecting unborn babies and their mothers.
