FROM THE COORDINATOR
Connie Bancroft
There are many pro-life teachers here in Ohio. As a result, we have formally organized an Ohio Chapter of Teachers Saving Children®. Our state organization is affiliated with the national organization.
On the state level we have formed an Ad Hoc Committee of 7 members. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please give one of the committee members a call.
Please consider the information presented in this newsletter. The impact we will have within our professional educators' organizations will be partially dependent upon the number of people we represent. Join us in rescuing our professional educators' organizations. Let's save America's schools!

NEA ABORTION STAND IS FIRM
According to a letter that I received from NEA dated 1/22/90, "NEA cannot be characterized as either 'pro-life' or 'pro-abortion'. Rather, NEA is pro-choice." However, with the New Business Item 65 (1990), which passed easily, there is absolutely no doubt and no question that the NEA leadership is PRO-ABORTION.
NEA Resolution 1-21 Family Planning:
The National Education Association supports family planning, including the right to reproductive freedom.
The Association urges the government to give high priority to making available all methods of family planning to women and men unable to take advantage of private facilities.
The Association further urges the implementation of community-operated, school-based family planning clinics that will provide intensive counseling by trained personnel. (85, 86).

New Business Item 65:
NEA will oppose any legislation which will erode the status of Roe vs Wade and/or which impedes access to and choice of reproductive health care options, by providing technical assistance to state affiliates.
Rationale: NEA resolution supports family planning including the right to reproductive freedom. Erosion of reproductive rights by states, currently provided by Roe vs Wade, must be challenged.

NEA DELEGATE PROCEDURE
All policies of the NEA are adopted by the delegates to the annual Representative Assembly. These delegates are selected by their colleagues in the local and state affiliates to represent their view in the deliberation of the assembly. However, the policies adopted do not represent the majority of the teaching profession. We all can get involved by becoming delegates to the NEA Representative Assembly or by voting for those who do represent our philosophy.
Local associations can send delegates to the NEA Representative Assembly. There can be 1 delegate per 150 members or major fraction thereof with expenses paid for by the local. Information has been sent by the NEA to the local presidents. Local delegates must be chosen and the name(s) reported to the OEA office by April 11th.
At-large delegates are chosen by the membership representing the various OEA units. At large delegates receive partial funding from OEA. The candidacy deadline is past. Ballots plus biographical information of each candidate has already been sent to the locals. Ballots are to be returned to the OEA office by March 18th. If you do not receive a biography of the candidates with your ballots, contact your local president.
If you have further questions regarding the choosing of delegates for the NEA Representative Assembly, contact Jackie Hawley at the OEA office (1-800-282-1500).
Educate yourself about the candidates and vote!

ON THE ABORTION ISSUE...PRO-CHOICE or PRO-LIFE?
Pro-choice defined: Means the individual is pro-abortion. They are for the choice to abort (kill) unborn babies. They believe there should be no laws protecting unborn babies.
Pro-life defined: Means the individual is for the choice of life for unborn babies. They believe there should be laws protecting unborn babies and their mothers.
"The care of human life and not its destruction is the first and only legitimate object of good government."
-Thomas Jefferson
