FROM THE COORDINATOR
Connie Bancroft
I am really excited about what has been happening since the last newsletter. We are now officially recognized by the State of Ohio as a non-profit organization. The paperwork for the IRS is being processed and should be sent in soon. We have had lots of opportunities to share with the public and other teachers about our organization.
At the present time we are not officially organizing local chapters. However, we encourage you to get together for support and to work at your local level. We encourage you to share this information with other pro-life teachers.
Please carefully consider the information presented in this newsletter. I hope that you too can get excited and join us in rescuing our professional educators' organizations. The impact we will have within our professional educators' organizations will be partially dependent upon the number of people we represent. Let's work together to save both the lives of the unborn and America's schools.

OEA MAINTAINS ITS ABORTION STANCE
The OEA Spring Representative Assembly was held May 3-4 in Columbus, Ohio, at its usual location, in the Veterans' Hall. Attending were some 1,2000 delegates from all over the State, and the purpose, as usual, was to conduct such business as electing officers, updating position statements on various issues, both social and political, and such housekeeping activities as reviewing the annual budget.
While at this meeting, three of us got together and hammered out a proposal to be presented to the assembly. Our intention was to adopt a proposal entitled Unity of Purpose. In this proposal (New Business Item 10), we stated that:
Since abortion is a divisive issue among the OEA membership, all references to abortion, direct or implied, shall be deleted from OEA official documents.
Before we could even rise to make our proposal, someone sounded an objection, which was then carried by the assembly; we were not, however, without support, and intend to work on organizing more of it next Fall. We know that there are pro-lifers who attend these meetings, but they need to be encouraged to come out and be heard on this issue; we can win, and we plan to do so.
NOTE: Thanks to D. Jude Coletta and Gary Winney for making the proposal and for providing us with the above information. We are encouraging you as pro-life teachers to write the OEA and express your thoughts regarding OEA's stand on abortion. A letter to the editor, which should be limited to 150 words, can be addressed to: Richard J Baker, Editor, OHIO SCHOOLS, Ohio Education Association, 225 East Broad Street, Box 2550, Columbus OH 43216.
