OHIO LIFE ISSUES CAUCUS REPORT

The members of Ohio Life Issues Caucus are excitedly preparing for the work that will be done at the OEA Fall Representative Assembly on December 7, 1996, when over 1000 delegates will meet at the Veterans Memorial in Columbus for the fall business session. Ohio Life Issues Caucus will once again be there do its bidding on behalf of life. The mission of the Ohio Life Issues Caucus is to help channel resources into those avenues dealing with education and its improvement, and to move OEA away from non-educational issues.

If you are a member of the OEA, your help is needed immediately. First please check to make sure your local association is being represented both at the OEA regional meetings and at the OEA RA. If not, why not consider serving as a delegate? There are deadlines, but it may not be too late to inquire about serving as a delegate. Secondly, if you are a delegate, or even an alternate, your participation in Life Issues Caucus is vital. For more information, contact Gary Winney at 216-944-4409.

1996 STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION RACES

Recently, TSC has shared articles with you regarding the State Health Model Curricula. The current drafts of the model curricula reflect a model that aggressively allows the school/state to assume important roles which throughout time have been ordained for parents. Parents and teachers need to be involved in the development of the local health curriculum. Under the title of Comprehensive School Health, Abortion Access/Clinics may be coming to all Ohio's schools. That is why it is so important for the citizens of this state to become involved in the State Board of Education Election process. Six of the 11 Districts will have Board members who will be elected this fall.

For your review, TSC has listed the candidates for the upcoming State Board of Education elections on November 5, 1996. We are NOT making any endorsements. However, we encourage you to take the time to contact and research those running in your district and become involved in your state government. For additional information regarding the State Board of Education Elections, please contact the Ohio Roundtable at 1-800-522-VOTE.
