OHIO LIFE ISSUES CAUCUS

Several years ago, a group of educators in Ohio came together out of a concern for the moral direction of the Ohio Education Association. This group continues to remain committed to the goal of seeing OEA relinquish its position on abortion (--by now, it is common knowledge as to what that position actually is.) We have spent a great deal of time and energy debating this and other related issues, on the floor of the organization's representative assembly, appealing both to the reason and to the collective conscience of the delegation. We have found a great deal of resistance to our appeals, and an atmosphere that borders on intimidation for those who would support our cause.

There seems to be a great spiritual need throughout the various echelons of the OEA and we will be attempting to meet that need, as time goes on, through literature distribution, encouraging email attachments, provision of an informative and inspiring website (friends-of-the- educator.org) and prayer. We wish to provide peace and comfort to those in need of it, while at the same time urging a proper alignment of that organization's moral compass.

During this past summer, Life Issues Caucus was also represented at the NEA RA in Los Angeles CA, assisting various like-minded organizations in affecting much-needed change within the National Education Association; the need is the same, although it is even more intense.

Our hope is that one by one, our colleagues will come to see-and embrace-the truth.
