June 30, 1992, Columbus, Ohio. Pro-life teachers and other concerned citizens demonstrated in front of the Ohio Education Association (OEA) office at 225 E Broad St in Columbus today. They were requesting that the National Education Association (NEA) revoke its pro-abortion stand and be neutral on the issue. The OEA is the state affiliate of the NEA.
Connie Bancroft, of Damascus OH, is the Executive Director of Teachers Saving Children® (of Ohio). "As Executive Director, I talk with many teachers and school employees across the state and find that there are many who are very concerned about the pro-abortion stand of NEA/OEA. Many resent their dues being spent on non-educational issues. They also feel that the leadership and delegates are not representing its membership."
Seventeen people showed up today to protest the stance of the state and national associations. They oppose the NEA Resolution I-21 (1985, 1986) and the NEA New Business Item 65 (1990) which they view as being pro-abortion and a divisive misrepresentation of the profession.
Teachers Saving Children® Inc. of Ohio is an organization of pro-life teachers of Ohio and other concerned citizens committed to establishing among professional educators' organizations a respect for all human life from conception to natural death. The Ohio Chapter was formed in the spring of 1991 and is affiliated with the national organization. Currently there are 82 members statewide and about 600 nationally.
