TEACHERS REQUEST NEUTRALITY
ON ABORTION ISSUE BY NEA/OEA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 30, 1993, Columbus, Ohio.  Ohio teachers will be joining teachers from around the country urging the National Education Association (NEA) to change their pro-abortion position at their convention June 30 July 5, 1993 in San Francisco.

"Empty classrooms means unemployed teachers," states Connie Bancroft, Executive Director of Teachers Saving Children® (of Ohio) from Damascus, Ohio. "The loss of 30,000,000 children who would have been students in America's classrooms has resulted in the loss of over 50,000 educational careers and the closing down of many schools," said Bancroft. "It is the height of foolishness to condone or support a practice (abortion) which eliminates the very people, the very client that our profession is supposed to serve. If any group would defend the unborn, it should be teachers!"

Pro-life delegates to the convention will urge the NEA to rescind and repeal NEA Resolution I-13 (1985, 1986) and New Business Item 65 (1990). "Many teachers resent their dues being spent on non-educational issues particularly spending it to eliminate the students of tomorrow. NEA/OEA must cease taking controversial political stands without a clear mandate from its members!" said Bancroft.

Ohioans will be joining the national organization of TSC in demonstrating against the NEA pro-abortion position in San Francisco on Thursday, July 1st, and Saturday, July 3rd, from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Moscone Convention Center.

Teachers Saving Children® is an organization of pro-life teachers of Ohio and other concerned citizens committed to establishing a respect for all human life from conception to natural death among professional educators' organizations.
