TEACHERS TO PICKET OEA
OVER ABORTION STAND

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 2, 1994, Columbus, Ohio.  Teachers Saving Children® Inc. of Ohio (TSC) will be sponsoring a peaceful demonstration at the Holiday Inn, 33 Nationwide Blvd. in downtown Columbus from 7:30 AM - 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 4, 1994. This demonstration is being held at the same time and location as the Ohio Education Association (OEA) is holding its annual NEA (National Education Association) delegate briefing.

"I talk with many teachers and school employees across the state," said Connie Bancroft who is from Damascus, Ohio and the Executive Director of TSC. "I find that there are many who are very concerned about the pro-abortion stand of the NEA/OEA. Many resent their dues being spent on non-educational issues particularly spending it to eliminate pre-born students."

As these NEA delegates attend the annual NEA convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, July 1 through July 6, 1994, pro-life educators of Ohio are only asking that the NEA refrain from any sort of activism regarding abortion by rescinding and repealing NEA Resolution I-13 (1985, 1986) and New Business Item 65 (1990). "NEA/OEA must cease taking controversial political stances without a clear mandate from its members", states Bancroft. "It serves no purpose for an educational organization to address these matters of deep personal conscience. They, the NEA/OEA, should allow individuals to pursue their personal convictions regarding abortion by adopting the one position which will truly be neutral, a position of silence."

Teachers Saving Children® is an Ohio organization of pro-life teachers and other concerned citizens committed to establishing among professional educators' organizations a respect for all human life from conception to natural death.
