TEACHERS TO PICKET OEA
OVER ABORTION STAND

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 6, 1990, Columbus, Ohio.  The Pro-life teachers of Ohio will be holding a demonstration in front of the OEA building, 225 E Broad St., Columbus, from 2:00 - 3:00 PM on Friday, 6 July 1990. This "Webster Anniversary Week" pro-life demonstration is dedicated to the leadership of the National Education Association (NEA) and the teachers of America and Ohio with the hope of saving the lives of future students and saving the jobs and careers of tens of thousand of teachers and other school employees. For every 25 babies killed by abortion, one teacher loses his or her job.

As the NEA leaders meet at the annual NEA convention in Kansas City, MO this week, we, the pro-life educators of Ohio, pray that they realize how abortion on demand has become an economic disaster for their profession. The loss of 25,000,000 children who would have been students in America's classrooms has also resulted in the loss of over 50,000 educational careers and the closing down of many schools.

The cataclysmic moral and economic consequences of the abortion holocaust are becoming more and more apparent in America especially in those industries and professions which are child-dependent and child-intensive such as education. We shouldn't wonder why America's automobile manufacturers can't find enough new customers. Many of the teenage boys and girls who would be buying new cars today were aborted in the early 1970's. The worst is yet to come: for the schools, auto dealers, baby food companies,...for America.

The 8,700 delegates to the NEA convention would do well by America's children, women, and teachers to rescind and repeal NEA Resolution I-21 which many NEA members view as being pro-abortion and a divisive misrepresentation of their profession.

Additionally, NEA's leaders should apologize to the 2,000,000 NEA members for co-sponsoring the pro-abortion rally in Washington DC in November 1989 and for contributing $5,000 to fund that event. It is the height of foolishness to condone or support a practice (abortion) which eliminates the very people, the very clients...your profession is supposed to serve.

NEA's leaders at the national, state, and local levels should promise America's teachers that the union will refrain from any sort of activism regarding abortion and remain clearly neutral on the issue.

Pro-life NEA members should follow the NEA union reform plan suggested by Teachers Saving Children® director Bob Pawson. That is, run for union office and reform the NEA from within to guarantee NEA's neutrality on abortion and other moral and political issues.
