Among the initial group of founders was a quiet, dedicated, and determined reading specialist from Muncy PA, Kathy Berdanier. During the first year of preparation, Kathy's gentle, caring, and persistent leadership as the first Executive Director of Teachers Saving Children^® of PA, Inc. guided the founding members through the laborious meetings and tedious legalities necessary to complete the formal paperwork needed for approval as a Teachers Saving Children^® Affiliate State Chapter. This approval came on May 31, 1997.

Sadly, Kathy had died in June of 1996 of a cancer that took its toll on her body but never touched her lovely and lofty spirit. She did not live long enough to see the results of her efforts; but, she never once hesitated, even after the onset of her illness, to make Teachers Saving Children^® of PA, Inc. become a reality. If anything, her illness urged her on to even greater efforts on behalf of God's defenseless ones.

Those of us who worked with Kathy to establish this pro-life voice in education will always value that experience. Her enthusiasm, her reverence for all life from conception until natural death, her loving respect for others, and her admirable determination to found our state chapter will continue to spur us on to greater efforts.

We who were involved in the early days of our chapter's founding consider Kathy Berdanier a special gift of God who made this world a genuinely better place for having lived among us. We dedicate our founding and our ongoing work to her memory.
